Morning stars and the temptation to rush the third candle
The third close decides the star — marking the pattern mid-session is a habit our drills deliberately break.

Morning and evening stars are three-candle stories. The middle session shows hesitation; the third confirms by closing deep into the first body. Traders watching a live bar often announce the star before that third close exists.
Why we ban early labels
In Candlestick Pattern Mastery we treat an unfinished third candle as incomplete by rule. You may note “star candidate.” You may not upgrade the note until the session ends. The ban feels pedantic for ten minutes and then saves weeks of rewritten journals.
Checklist we use in the room
- Clear advance (evening) or decline (morning) before the first candle of the trio
- Strong first body in the direction of that prior move
- Small real body in the middle (doji or near-doji preferred in our stricter drills)
- Third candle closing beyond the midpoint of the first body
Miss one item and the formation returns to ordinary price action. Ordinary is allowed. Invented stars are not.
Practice without a tutor
Take a historical chart, cover the right edge, and reveal one candle at a time. When a potential middle star appears, write your prediction for the third close, then reveal. Score honesty, not optimism.
